You are looking at the remains of one of the antique doors that were situated in the original wall. Well visible is a part of the piers made with the local pink stone. Other piers are visible internally, toward Via dell’Orticaro; they were originally part of the ancient wall, then used again for later constructions. Who, moved by curiosity, has visited a larger part of this roman wall, has surely seen another door, almost intact, called Porta Folle.
