TREVI, Italy - Step by step (5)

In the heavens above the Trevi of the time, we see the Virgin surrounded by angels and the principal saints protecting the city: S. Emiliano on the left, S. Vincenzo in the middle, and S. Benigno on the right. It was painted in 1704 on the occasion of the rmoval from Lucca to Trevi of the relics of Trevi's saints, St. Vincent and St. Benignus. By way of thanking the city of Lucca for the precious gift, the Town Council decided to confer the citizenship of Trevi upon all the citizens of Lucca. The Priors who commissioned the painting were made to pay for it because they had not first sought the governor's authorization. It was restored in 1987 at the expense of the Cooperativa Agricola Oleificio, producer of the renowned "Oil of Trevi" which can never be too highly praised.
